Husband and I have started playing It Takes Two, to spend more time with each other. I'd seen ads for it a while back, but the fact that it requires two people was a turn off for me because I'm so used to not having anyone to consistently play games with. But it stuck in my brain because the art and design is what caught my attention the most. When I saw Husband watching a playthrough of it the other day, I was super excited to ask him to play it with me. He was watching the playthrough because he also assumed he'd never get to play it either. Our taste in games is so different, it didn't really occur to either of us that we could try it out together.
It's got so many different types of games smushed into one, and I love it! There are minigames, but a lot of the story progression uses different game types too. For example, we came to a level last night where instead of playing split screen, the game switched over to an isometric view like an old rpg game. And the two characters get complimentary but different powers each level to help progress. I want the play it again at least once, so I can try Cody's powers. (The two playable characters are May and Cody, and I'm May this go 'round.)
Something Husband pointed out, the game doesn't punish you at all for dying. Like in a boss fight, if only one of you dies, it's easy to respawn quickly to rejoin your partner, or if both you die, the save points are very forgiving too. So you don't have to go back and do a bunch of work to get back to where you were.

Date: 2021-09-22 07:03 pm (UTC)Goodness, now that I'm actually trying to think about it, I can't remember the last time I legit played co-op with someone except for It Takes Two. I don't think FPS multiplayer really counts lol. I've tried Minecraft but that never holds my attention, and the only other time I can think of was many years ago when Husband and I played Battleblock Theater when we were long distance. I know there's been other times, but I'm drawing a blank XD
- I tried to post this comment way earlier but I couldn't connect to DW for a bit -

Date: 2021-09-22 09:20 pm (UTC)I have sibling game nights where we videochat on Discord so we can talk smack while playing games. One of my sisters doesn't usually participate because of the East Coast/West Coast time difference, but we have fun.=!
